John Shea to receive the King Charles III Coronation Medal

John Shea has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for exceptional service and contribution. The medal, created by the Sovereign and administered by the Chancellery of Honours, marks the coronation on May 6, 2023. The ceremony will be held on March 20, 2025, in Saint John, New Brunswick. John’s dedication, service, and contribution to curling, both nationally and internationally, have been truly exemplary. His efforts have not only advanced the sport but have also fostered a strong sense of sportsmanship. Congratulations John! |
Kevin Martin appointed to the Order of Canada

Congratulations to Governor General’s Curling Club member Kevin Martin who has been appointed to the Order of Canada.
Kevin Martin skipped Canada to the gold medal on home ice at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. He also captured a world championship, four Brier titles plus a record 18 Grand Slam of Curling men’s titles during his illustrious career.
Martin was also instrumental in establishing the Grand Slam of Curling series.
After retiring in 2014, the Edmonton native moved into the broadcast booth as a colour commentator for Sportsnet’s curling coverage and served as an ambassador for the Grand Slam of Curling. Martin also runs a youth curling academy to help the next generation of stars in the sport.

Bernadette McIntyre appointed Lieutenant-Governor of Saskatchewan

Congratulations to Governor General’s Curling Club member, Bernadette McIntyre, who has been named as Saskatchewan’s 24th Lieutenant-Governor. Bernadette was inducted into the the Governor General’s Curling Club in 2017, amongst her many curling achievements, she received the Ray Kingsmith award in 2003 and was the first female president of the Saskatchewan Curling Association in 1999. |
